SAT / ACT Accommodations Requests

SAT/ACT Accommodations Requests for Students Who Have Accommodations Approved on PCSD IEP/504 Plans

It is important to begin the process early to apply for accommodations on standardized tests.  Please see or contact Mrs. LaShanda McCadney in the Counseling office to begin the process.  Accommodations requests for ACT and SAT/AP/PSAT are handled very differently.  Pittsford Mendon High School will help facilitate this process. However, the decision is made solely by the College Board or ACT and approval is not guaranteed.

College Board Accommodations (SAT/AP/PSAT):
Applying for test accommodations is recommended no later than spring of sophomore year.  Please see the College Board link below for more information.  Please note that:

  • Families need to turn in to the Counseling office a signed consent form (see link below).
  • The approval process may take up to 8 weeks.
  • Once approved, accommodations are in effect for all College Board tests (SAT/AP/PSAT) for the duration of a student's high school tenure.
  • MHS will help facilitate the process. However, the decision is made solely by College Board.  Approval is not guaranteed even if a student currently receives testing accommodations at MHS.

    ACT  Accommodations:
ACT accommodations are handled differently than through the College Board.  ACT accommodation requests are made at the time of test registration.  Please see the ACT link below for more information.  Please note that:

  • Families need to turn in to the Counseling office a signed consent form (see link below)
  • There is a box to check during the registration process indicating that a student wants to test with their accommodations.  While that should prompt an e-mail alert to the Counseling office, it is always a good idea to alert Mrs. McCadney to make sure.
  • ACT's deadline to submit requests is typically each test date's late registration deadline.  Please plan accordingly to allow time for the Counseling office to submit the request.
  • National Testing is for students whose only accommodation is 50% Extended Time.  An accommodation request must be completed and turned in.  Students with 50% Extended Time will test on the national test date and can test at any National Test Center.
  • Special "School Based" Testing is for students with other types of accommodations (100%/Double Time, use of a computer, etc.).   Generally, students approved for School-Based accommodations will test within a two-week window of the national test date.
  • MHS will help facilitate the process, however, the decision is made solely by ACT and approval is not guaranteed even if a student currently receives test accommodations at MHS.
